Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants to share the design and technology for the Supercharger station to help create a standard for EV charging. He does want other electric vehicle manufacturers to follow the same model of free charging for life and possibly a share of cost in maintaining Supercharger stations. Creating an interchangeable standard that could be used across the industry would certainly be instrumental in furthering consumer acceptance and usage of electric vehicles.
